RESOLUTE WITH WASHINGTON COLLEGE

Resolute Racing - Wednesday, November 23, 2011
As everyone gets ready for the long holiday weekend we thought it would be fun to share a video that has been tearing up our social media sites.

While at the Head of the Charles, John Leekley, Men’s Head Coach at Washington College made this great video with his boys during a practice row.  We had to share it….again!

Enjoy the video and all of us at Resolute wish you a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

For more info on John Leekley check out his website.

THE ELENA MARIA

Resolute Racing - Friday, October 28, 2011

At least once a Head of the Charles someone will come into the tent looking for the Elena Maria poster. And over the past three years we have always had to disappoint those looking for it. The poster had been missed placed for a couple of those years and when we found it again last year we remembered why we had misplaced it. The poster was badly faded and had seen better regattas.

But first some background. The “Elena Maria” was built in 1997 and is being rowed by Brown. No that is not a typo it is still being rowed. Back when the “Elena Maria” celebrated her fifth birthday a poster was made with the heading that read “The Elena Maria is 5 years old….and still winning.” A couple of years later our Manger of Commercial Operations, Sue Hinckley, was at an event and realized that the poster was wrong. The boat was now 7 years old and still winning. She added a piece of blue tape and wrote the number 7 on it and thus a tradition was born. Every year the poster was displayed the blue tape would be updated.

Libby, from Brown, who rowed the “Elena Maria”, was one of those folks who helped update the poster. This past weekend she stopped by the tent and asked after the poster. She was of course disappointed that we didn’t have the poster displayed but she did share this great photo with us.

In January 2012 the “Elena Maria” will be 15 years old. She is still in Brown’s fleet, still being rowed and still winning races.

In honor of her 15th birthday we will have a new poster made for display at the 2012 Head of the Charles. And in 2013 the tradition will continue….more blue tape on the poster to mark off her years being rowed and winning. Libby, we hope you stop by!

CRI'S WOMEN'S YOUTH 8 BREAK RECORD AT HEAD OF THE CHARLES

Resolute Racing - Monday, December 13, 2010

In a crowded field of 70 boats the Community Rowing Inc. Women’s  Youth 8+ Varsity 1 crew was in a tight race with Saratoga Rowing Association.

The CRI girls prevailed, however, and went on the not only win the Gold but to set a new course record: breaking the 1997 record by 13 seconds!

And while we don’t normally like to brag (which means we have to…just a little bit) we here at Resolute are especially proud of this win. The girls won in a 16 year old Resolute; one of the first 10 built. Talk about a return on investment!

Congratulations to all the crew at Community Rowing Inc. for a very successful racing season and hats off to Coach Ethan Curren for an outstanding victory!

MARIN'S MEN'S YOUTH 8 BREAKS COURSE RECORD AT THE HEAD OF THE CHARLES

Resolute Racing - Monday, November 22, 2010

You never quite know what to expect at the Head of the Charles regatta except the unexpected. The 2010 Head of the Charles proved no exception. Just ask the gang from The Marin Rowing Association, especially the Men’s Youth 8+ crew.

In a rented Resolute the boys started 69th in a crowded field of 76 boats. Junior Parent Jon Littman said in a Marin Rowing blog post: “Sweeping under Eliot Bridge, 750 meters from the finish, Marin had somehow moved up ten boats by weaving in and out like a roadster. The red and black rowed furiously around the final turn into the stretch. Back at the dock, as coaches, parents and friends anxiously waited, everyone knew the boys had rowed an extraordinary race, but no one knew just how extraordinary. As the 8 rowers and their coxswain stepped out of the sleek, long black scull, a cheer went up. There were screams and hugs. The boys danced and shouted.”

What they had managed to pull off was amazing. Navigating bridges and dangerous turns, they moved up through the pack, won the gold and broke the course record by more than 8 seconds.

Coach Graham Willoughby said, “This trip was planned so these young men could come out, see Boston, vista a few colleges, and have some fun. But they had other plans, and carried them out and had themselves the ultimate Charles experience!”

We couldn’t agree more! Congratulations to all at Marin Rowing for an outstanding rowing season.

TEAM RESOLUTE AT THE HEAD OF THE CHARLES

Resolute Racing - Thursday, November 04, 2010

Another Head of the Charles has come and gone and Team Resolute had a great time meeting new teams and coaches and of course getting a chance to catch up with old friends.

JP from the Miami Rowing Club is by no means “old” but he seems like old friend as we do see a lot of him. JP was a member of the team that was a part of the photo shoot for our website revamp back in 2008. The banner behind him can be seen in our tent at numerous regattas. (He is second from the right.) Back in Bristol, RI we see JP every day as this shot as well as several others from that photo shoot hang in the front office.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get much of a chance to talk with JP before another crush of people came into the tent. So JP, if you are out there, drop us a line and let us know what you have been up to post Resolute modeling days and don’t forget to stop in and say hi next year.
