Casey and Phil will be at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia this weekend. We just found out Casey will be doing some announcing this year. Keep an eye out for him on the Jumbotron!

Jeff will be on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA this weekend. First up is the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships tomorrow. Then on Sunday he will be back for the EARC Sprints.

Frank will be at the Midwest Scholastic Sprints on Saturday and Sunday. The sprints are being held on Lake Harsha in Bethel, OH.

Don’t forget to send in those photos or share with us on Facebook. We want to see all the fun you had at these events.

We are still scheduling service for Stotesbury next weekend. See this post for more details.

SERVICE AT STOTESBURY

The Resolute Team will be arriving at the Stotesbury Regatta the afternoon of Thursday, May 17^th.

If you know, in advance, of service work you would like to have done and would like to be put on the Service Schedule, e-mail Rob Mason, our Production Manger, at rmason@resoluteracing.com . Please include in your e-mail a detailed list of the work required. This will help for planning purposes to insure we get you and your crew out on the water as quickly as possible.

We, of course, will be there throughout the regatta with our parts van fully stocked… just in case something unexpected should come up.

Thanks to all who participated in the Spring 2012 Photo Contest. We won’t bore you (even though we are) with how great all the photos are (they really are great) and how hard it was to choose (even though it really was hard) instead we will get right to the point.

Resolute Racing is looking for your take on the stealthy Z.

Send us your creative, funny, or crew filled pictures of Resolute’s out in the wild and you could be sporting some fine Z gear. One grand prize winner will receive a bag of Z gear worth $100.00, one 2nd place winner will receive a bag of Z gear worth $50.00 and one 3^rd place winner will receive a bag of Z gear worth $25.00. Winners will be chosen by our illustrious Resolute Photo Jury.

Rules of the Game (because you knew we had to have some…):

Photos must be 300dpi in resolution.
Be sure you have permission of all the folks that appear in your photo to have their lovely selves spread all over the rowing world.

It is spring and racing is well underway.

Casey’s weekend will be spent at Cooper Creek, Benderson Park in Sarasota, FL at the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship April 13-14 at and the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association Sculling Championships on April 15^th.

Frank will be at the Marietta Invitational Regatta in Marietta, OH.

Phil will be at the Knecht Cup April 14-15 on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, NJ.

RESOLUTE WELCOMES ROB MASON TO OUR TEAM

Resolute welcomes new Manger of Operations and Production, Rob Mason, to our management team. Rob brings a wealth of marine and composite knowledge to the table.

Rob has been messing around with boats since he was a small boy sailing out of Massachusetts Bay with his family. After graduating from Roger Williams here in Bristol with a degree in Architectural and Civil Engineering, he went on to get an advanced certificate in Small Craft Design from The Landing School in Maine.

Over his 30 year career in the marine industry he has worked in various capacities from shipwright to draftsman/designer to Head Engineer for such prestigious yacht companies as Murray G. Peterson Associates in South Bristol, ME and Alden Yachts in Portsmouth, RI.

In his down time Rob, a big New England sports fan, enjoys spending time with his wife and son at Little League games and other sporting events. And of course he is still messing around with boats. He is currently restoring a classic 1936 International One Design sailboat of which he is only the 4^th owner.

NEWS FROM THE HENLEY BOAT RACES

While most everyone is looking forward to the start of the San Diego Crew Classic tomorrow we thought we would pass along a firsthand recap of the The Henley Boat Races Oxford vs. Cambridge that took place last weekend.

Chris O’Hara, the Head Coach of the Oxford University Lightweight Women’s crew, sent along this great note after the race.

Hello!

Our time was 6.48, the winning time in the heavyweight race was 6.38 (Cambridge). Under the heavyweight winning time + 4% rule, we needed to be faster than 6.53, which we were, so Full Blues should be awarded!

A very solid performance rowed in perfect conditions - minimal stream and very light head wind made both stations fair. Our girls got off to a flying start at 44, and very quickly went up by half a length. They settled around 35, and gradually stretched the lead to a length by 750m. Oxford broke contact and obtained clear water by the 1000m mark. Cambridge continued to apply pressure over the second half of the race, but didn't have the speed and had lost control of the steering so were forced to row in our wake for the final 1000m. As you know, we crossed the line one and 1/3 lengths clear. Oxford has now won 8 of the last 11 Lightweight Boat Races, all of them in Resolutes!

This was in our Marketing Manager, Leann’s in box this morning. It was a great way to start off the work day.

Hello Leann!

I am a freshman on the University of Rhode Island women's rowing team and I rowed for Bromfield the last four years in high school. Did I mention that I LOVE Resolute with a burning passion?

We met briefly at your tent at the Head of the Charles and you gave me your business card telling me to send over any good pictures I may take.

Yesterday our men’s team scrimmaged against Boston College here in Rhode Island and I got a few pretty good pictures! Hope you enjoy them!

Also, I've been following Resoulte Racing Shells on Facebook and I am extremely impressed with how beautiful the paint job on the Bromfield/ Acton-Boxboro lightweight 4+ has turned out. I remember when we got our 8+ that got painted the same blue color back from the shop. My jaw dropped all the way down to the ground!

RESOLUTE WELCOMES SPRING

Happy First Day of Spring! While we haven't had much to complain about here in New England, having had a very mild winter, it is still nice to know we are that much closer to beach weather.

What better way to welcome spring than to show off the next Lightweight 4+. This blue is the perfect compliment for a beautiful spring day.

Take a quick peek of the boat as she just arrived in paint and the first color is applied.

THE MAN BEHIND THE BEAR

Everyone knows the iconic bear on the bow of Brown University’s boats. But did you know that that design has been painted by hand by the same gentlemen since Brown bought its first Resolute over 15 years ago?

Over the past week out on the shop floor we have gotten a real treat and have been able to see the Brown Bear come to life.

Charlie Duane, the man behind the bear, has been working out in the rigging department painting the next two Brown boats coming off the line, one of which will be dedicated this Saturday.

It all starts with a chalk outline of the design on the bow.

Then Charlie prepares his paints and brushes and gets down to painting.

And all of the work is done by hand….a very steady hand!

Charlie is no stranger to boat painting. With over 30 years of experience he has done everything from America’s Cup boats, to motor yachts, to day sailers. Click here for some photos of his other work. It’s pretty amazing.
